Cain Velasquez is the former heavyweight champ of UFC and will be fighting his first UFC bout since 2022, when he was arrested for attempted murder.
Velasquez, a student of the American Kickboxing Academy, will be a cornerman for his friend Gabriel Benitez. Benitez is a 23-10 MMA fighter and 7-6 UFC veteran. He fights Jim Miller, a 36-17 MMA fighter, 25-16 UFC, on the UFC Fight Night 234 card, at the UFC Apex.

Velasquez attended the UFC Apex on Friday for the official weigh ins and the ceremonial faceoffs. He was a popular photo subject amongst fighters, coaches and staff.

Velasquez needed special permission to enter fight week as a Cornerman from the Santa Clara County Court (Calif.). Saturday’s bout marks the second time Velasquez has served as a cornerman for a high-profile bout, also having been in the corner for Usman Nurmagomedov a Bellator 300 in October.
