Chepe Mariscal on Win Over Morgan Charriere: I ‘Made It an MMA Fight’

Chepe Mariscal After earning a split decision victory over a competitor, (16-6 MMA and 3-0 UFC), he extended his winning streak to six. Morgan Charriere The UFC Apex will feature 19-10-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC on Saturday.

Mariscal awarded him an A- for his performance, believing that he had done what he intended to do: enjoy himself and fight a great bout. He said Charriere had a very high fight IQ and was a very difficult opponent.

“He definitely tested me and some of my limits,” Mariscal told MMASucka. “He showed me how much more I’ve evolved.”

Mariscal’s success came when he muddied waters in rounds 1, 3, and 4, pressing Charriere into the clinch while pushing the pace. Two judges awarded him a split-decision win for the two rounds he mentioned.

“To be honest, I get a little tired of trying to be this clean, technical fighter like I can be, but when I put that pressure and I’m throwing those punches and keeping the pressure on you, I interrupt your flow, I interrupt your breathing, your mentality, your motive,” Mariscal said.

Mariscal addressed criticisms by coaches, fighters and other people that he was smacking Charriere within the Octagon.
