The UFC 299 preliminaries featured a bout between heavyweight competitors on Saturday.

Fifth-ranked Curtis Blaydes and seventh-ranked Jailton Almeida clashed at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.  Blaydes hoped to rebound from a loss to Sergei Pavlovich in his last outing.  Almeida was riding a winning streak of 15 fights when he entered the match.  He last felt defeat in 2018.

Almeida aimed to take the fight to the floor early in the initial round.  Blaydes struggled to get back up after he was put on his back.  Almeida hit him hard on the canvas.  Blaydes tried to stand up several times but Almeida slammed him down.

Almeida didn’t inflict any damage, but he did secure nine takedowns during the first frame.  MMAWeekly gave the round a score of 10-9 to Almeida.

Almedia scored a right at the start the second round.  He changed his level quickly and tried to get a takedown with one leg.  Blaydes sprang out and delivered hammer-fists to Almeida’s side.  Almeida had been injured, and fell to one side. The referee stepped into the fight and stopped it.

Blaydes broke Almeida’s 15-fight win streak and put himself back on the winning side.  He has won four of his most recent fight fights.
