Former undisputed middleweight championship challenger, Paulo Costa has claimed a “deal is done” for him to fight former titleholder, Robert Whittaker in a return to the Octagon for both of them at UFC 299 in March of next year.
Costa, currently ranked number six in the middleweight division, has not fought since August last year when he faced former undisputed champion Luke Rockhold in Salt Lake City. He defeated the Santa Cruz veteran in a tight, unanimous decision victory to end his two-fight losing streak.
Whittaker has been on the sidelines since his spectacular TKO defeat to Dricus Du Plessis, a UFC 297 challenger who will be fighting for the title in July, during International Fight Week.
Whittaker appeared to challenge Costa for a UFC 299 clash in March, after the UFC 284 clash in Australia was scrapped, Whittaker posted a picture of Costa on his Instagram account confirming that he will be at the Miami event.
