The International Sumo League, in an effort to popularize Sumo in America, recently organized a series of groundbreaking events in New Jersey. The goal? The objective?
The sold-out inaugural event, dubbed “Club Sumo,” unfolded on January 25, 2024, at the esteemed White Eagle Hall. Following this successful debut, anticipation is building for the upcoming event scheduled for February 8, 2024, at the same venue, leading up to the grand finale – the World Championship Sumo at the Prudential Center on February 18, 2024.
The success of Club Sumo was tangible. White Eagle Hall was packed to the brim with fans who were watching Sumo wrestling in its entirety for the very first time. The audience grew to love this sport as they gained more knowledge. Conversations were rife by the end of the evening about attending future events and observing Sumo in greater detail.
The opening round was a tournament with six bouts.
