Tom Aspinall, interim UFC heavyweight champ, admits that he is afraid of Jon Jones. However, he claims this fear fuels his motivation.
Aspinall was crowned interim champion in November, and hopes to fight Jones very soon. However, ‘Bones is focused on getting the Stipe Miocic fight, and after that, he could walk away from the sport.
Tom Aspinall admits he fears Jon Jones, but believes that the fight will bring out the best in him.
“Well, I’m obviously confident that I could beat Jon Jones, because I want to fight him,” Aspinall said on his YouTube channel (via MMAMania). “I’m not making it a secret that I want to fight him. I’ve done everything that I can until this point. I want to prove that I’m the best in the world. I want to face Jon Jones, of course. But he doesn’t, so there’s not a lot I can do about that…”
“Do I fear him? Absolutely,” Aspinall added. “I fear all of my opponents. They are the absolute best. Absolutely I fear him, but that fuels me.”
