Coming face-to-face with interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall for the first time amid continued links to a future title unification fight, fellow titleholder, Jon Jones shared a tense meeting and some words with the British favorite, before briskly taking Aspinall’s hand off his shoulder.
Jones, the former two-time heavyweight champion, and current gold medalist in heavyweight, has been on the sidelines since he won vacant division spoils at UFC 285 back in March last year, by submitting Ciryl Ganes with an amazing first round submission victory via guillotine.
Apsinall from Atherton, California, is a rising contender who won the interim title in heavyweight back in November. At Madison Square Garden he stopped the streak of Russian knockout artists, Sergei Pavlovich, with a blistering KO victory of his own.
Jones, originally from Rochester, was supposed to headline this card in New York. However, the Rochester native had to withdraw due to a tear of his pectoral tendon.
